These two are doing two very Marmoty things at the same time – soaking up the sun’s warmth and keeping an eye on a potential predator (me). On a hike close to Rainier I was high above a little alpine meadow that was full of marmots, they just ignored me, but then there was a warning squeak from one and they all disappeared in a flash – the next thing I saw was a Golden Eagle just cruising above
The grey squirrel is very common throughout the bits of the US I know and there are a few populations where the come out black, This one is just over the border in Canada near Vancouver. On our last day in the US we saw a white version in a park in Boston
